North Adams Library Building
The New North Adams Library Building
Ground was broken on September 10, 2012 for a new North Adams Public Library building. Significant progress has been made on the building project, and the library hopes to open at the end of Summer, 2013. Work progresses on the interior, and flooring and fixtures will be installed in the coming weeks.
Currently, the North Adams Library is housed in a single room in the Seaman Community Building. The new library building will be 5000 square feet, and will house over 25,000 items, including books, DVDs, audiobooks, newspapers and magazines, and children's materials. The new library is located on Moores Road in Seaman, next to the North Adams High School, easily accessible from State Route 32, and will serve Seaman, Winchester, Cherry Fork, and the surrounding area.
Library Restores Full Open Hours
Starting Monday, July 16, all branches of the Adams County Public Library will be open six days each week. Adams County Libraries will be open from 10 am – 5 pm, Monday through Saturday. Each library will also offer evening hours until 7 pm on two week nights.
In 2010, the Adams County Public Library was forced to cut some services and reduce open hours by one day per week at each library, because of reductions in state library funding. In March 2012, Adams County voters approved a library levy, allowing us to restore the weekly hours during which library services and facilities are available to the community. Thank you for your continuing support!
