Many families are concerned about what they can do to prepare their pre-school child for reading success. The newly established Youth Outreach Program of the Adams County Public Library System now offers a Preschool Family Program, to introduce parents to Every Child Ready to Read. Every Child Ready to Read is a wonderful, easy-to-understand resource to help parents provide preschoolers with the pre-reading skills needed for success.
Parents are invited to attend an Every Child Ready To Read meeting at your local branch of the Adams County Public Library. The next round of meetings will be 30 minutes long, and offered morning and evening at each library. Feel free to bring your pre-schooler along! During the morning meetings, children are welcome to attend Story Time while their parents join in the ECCR meeting.:

The Peebles Library welcomed Peebles Police Officer Robert Peters, who gave a presentation about back-to-school safety to community residents and kids. After he talked about safety, Officer Peters handed out badges, and kids who attended the program were sworn in as Peebles auxiliary police officers, promising to help keep each other (and the Library) safe. Officer Peters helped us draw twelve winning names in our back-to-school give-away. To see more pictures of the event, visit our Kids page.
Congresswoman Jean Schmidt, Steven Alexander representing Terry Johnson, and Paul Worley visited the Peebles Library today as special guest readers during Story Time. Today's Story Time was themed Wild About Eyes, and was a presentation of Prevent Blindness Ohio. Wendy Klein represented Prevent Blindness Ohio, and shared information about eye and vision health and safety with children and their parents.

Are you ready for school? Wild About Eyes interactive kiosk, back-to-school fishing and prize givaways, personalized stylized portraits, a back-to-school safety presentation, and teen beauty tips are just some of the events planned for August at the Peebles Public Library.
During August, kids who visit the Peebles Library and check out books can "go fishing" to instantly receive back-to-school items, enter their name in drawings for back-to-school prizes, including fully-stocked backpacks, lunchbags, scientific calculators, and more, and enter their name for a chance to have their own stylized portrait sketched.
Plan to visit one of these August Activities at the Peebles Library!
Starting Monday, July 16, all branches of the Adams County Public Library will be open six days each week. Adams County Libraries will be open from 10 am – 5 pm, Monday through Saturday. Each library will also offer evening hours until 7 pm on two week nights.
In 2010, the Adams County Public Library was forced to cut some services and reduce open hours by one day per week at each library, because of reductions in state library funding. In March 2012, Adams County voters approved a library levy, allowing us to restore the weekly hours during which library services and facilities are available to the community. Thank you for your continuing support!
