Library Seeking Youth Outreach Specialist

The Adams County Public Library is now accepting applications for a Youth Outreach Specialist who is responsible for promoting library resources and services to students, parents, and educational groups. 

Position requires a bachelor’s degree with training in the teaching of reading as well as successful experience working with youth.  Salary based on training and experience beginning at $26,500.  Preference will be given to applicants with leadership skills and experience in team development.

Elizabeth JenkinsAll Adams County Public Libraries will close at 4:00 pm on Thursday, November 21, in observance of memorial services for library employee Elizabeth Jenkins.

Beth Jenkins joined the library as Youth Outreach Specialist in 2012, and was instrumental in expanding outreach services to schools, parents, and families throughout Adams County. She will be missed by all her library coworkers, and by the many children and families she served.

"Elizabeth 'Beth' Ellen (Games) Jenkins, 68, of West Union, Ohio, died Friday, November 15, 2013, at Fairfield Mercy in Fairfield.

She was born September 7, 1945, in Charleston, West Virginia. She was preceded in death by parents, William C. and Clara L. (Shuster) Games. She is survived by husband, James W. Jenkins of West Union; son, David J. (Chrystal) Jenkins of West Union; two daughters, Carrie Corbitt of Pricetown, West Virginia, and Jynx (Tucker) Battrell of Boise, Idaho; brother, Ben (Sally) Games of Georgetown, Kentucky; and five grandchildren.

She retired from O.V.L.S.D. and was an elementary teacher at West Union Elementary Schools. She was a former Professor at Shawnee State University in Portsmouth and Shepherd University in Shepherdstown, West Virginia. She was a 1963 Graduate of West Union High School; a 1968 Graduate of the Ohio State University in Columbus; and she received a Master's Degree from Marygrove College of Detroit, Michigan.

The memorial service is Thursday, November 21, 2013, at 7 p.m. at Lafferty Funeral Home in West Union. The visitation is Thursday from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m."

West Union Friends Honor Ann Delia Lax

TheAnn Delia Lax Friends of the West Union Library will hold a reception in honor of Ann Delia Lax on Saturday, November 16, at 2:00 pm in the West Union Public Library. Ann Delia Lax was an active, long time member of the West Union Friends of the Library, and served on the Board of Trustees of the Adams County Public Library. She has been missed by many in the library community since she passed away in November 2012. The Friends and community members will gather at the West Union Library to celebrate Ann Delia's many contributions to the library's history, and dedicate a memorial plaque in her honor.

Join Donelle for Teen Art Class for kids 10 - 16 at the West Union Library, every other Thursday at 10:30 am. We'll learn about a historic art period, explore art techniques and media, and learn to create our own unique art using each technique.
